Green Hill
Green Hill
VIEWPOINT
The Izu Peninsula’s west coast is full of breathtaking, overlooked viewpoints, waiting to be explored. Green Hill is located just off Route 17 and is a must see if you are looking for somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city with amazing views. It’s one of the best “hidden gems” off the beaten path that Izu has to offer.
Green Hill overlooks the Suruga Bay and on a good day you can see all the way to Toi and Dogashima. I recommend visiting as the sun is setting as Western Izu is famous for its gorgeous sunsets. There is also a seating area for you to relax and take in the scenery.
Unfortunately this spot is only accessible by car.
Review
This is a spot which I found completely by accident, driving along the coast after work one day. This coastal road isn’t usually travelled by tourists but whenever someone comes to Japan it’s a place I never fail to take them. It’s small but the views are so breathtaking that I never fail to feel at peace here.
The parking space only fits around 2/3 cars but it’s usually pretty quiet, hidden away from the normal tourist routes. There is also a shaded seating area for you to relax and watch the time fly by. Personally I prefer to either visit mid-day when the sea is sparkling emerald or during “golden hour” when the whole area is bathed in the golden light of the setting sun.
