Lover’s Cape
Lover’s Cape
VIEWPOINT
Lover’s Cape or Koibito Misaki as it is called in Japanese is one of the main attractions of the west coast of Izu. It features multiple statues, bells and also a wooden deck which provides over a 180 degree panoramic view of Mt. Fuji (on a good day) and the Suruga Bay.
It is said that saying the name of the person you love three times while ringing one of the bells will enable your love to grow. Many couples come here, especially to take part in the three times a year event where couples can dress up in wedding outfits and receive a “wedding declaration certificate” (please note that this is not legally binding).
The cape has two car parks, just off Route 136. The first is beside the cafe and second beside the gift shop.
Review
I recommend going to the car park at the gift shop. From this car park you can buy talismans where you can write your name with the name of your lover and hang it up for your love to be “everlasting”. From the shop, there is a path heading down the cliff. The walk down isn’t so difficult, it’s the walk back that’s a killer. There are many steps and the route back is all uphill so it can be quite tough going.
After heading down the slope, you will find the first bell and statue on your right. Make sure to ring the bell while calling your lover’s name three times as this is said to bring you good luck in love. Many people also provide an offering. You can also see Mt. Fuji from here.
After you’ve rung the bell and taken pictures of Mt. Fuji, head down the steps to the wooden deck. There are camera stands to allow you to take selfies. You will find another bell and statue here. I recommend visiting this just before sunset as it can be a very romantic, beautiful place to visit with your other half.

RECOMMENDED ROUTE:
Lover’s Cape is easiest to get to by car as public transport on the West side of Izu can be quite sporadic. If you’re travelling by public transport then take the train from Mishima to Shuzenji on the Izu Hakone Tetsudo Line. Switch to the bus bound for Matsuzaki (松崎) and get off at Lover’s Cape (恋人岬). You will need to walk from here to the viewpoint.

I like this place. Me and my wife really enjoy our time here and love the view and even their Ice cream! I really recommend it!!!
