The Izu Peninsula’s west coast is full of breathtaking, overlooked viewpoints, waiting to be explored. Heda Pass Viewpoint is located just off Route 18 and is a must see if you are looking for somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city with amazing views. It’s one of the best “hidden gems” off the beaten path that Izu has to offer.

Heda Pass Viewpoint overlooks the Suruga Bay and Heda, along the Western coast. I recommend visiting as the sun is setting as Western Izu is famous for its gorgeous sunsets.

Review

Trying to find another interesting route back to my old apartment, I took the mountain road via Heda. I was very pleasantly surprised to stumble across such a great view of the Suruga Bay. The drive can be a bit of a trek if you’re not used to mountain roads but coming via Shuzenji is definitely easier to drive if you’re worried about the road.

There is a small car park and observation deck, not too far to walk. However you can still see great views from the car park if you’re not up for the small walk.

RECOMMENDED ROUTE:

The best way to get here is by car however it is possible to go via bus from Shuzenji station. Take the bus towards Heda.
